God damn first years?! Give me more than that! I've earned it! I'm owed that much!

Sterling Braith is a member and third child of the Braith Family. His personal weapon is Fuste Fractio, a combat staff.

Appearance[]

Sterling is a man in his early twenties of slightly above average height, with dark yellow - almost black - hair, and bright yellow eyes.

He wears a white shirt under a double-breasted waistcoat, over which he wears a yellow-gold knee-length jacket with an upturned collar. He also wears grey-yellow pressed trousers and yellow and grey shoes.

Personality[]

Sterling is instantly hostile, much like Kamala, instead of putting up a kind act to fool his enemies. His short temper leads him to act viciously and rashly, but his lack of forethought is made up for by his skill and strength.

Sterling is constantly driven by a desire to gain and receive, be it another tally on his list of kills, or the right to take a mission instead of his siblings. The cause of this complex is unknown, but the fact that his quarters in Zenith are barren except for a lone, old teddy bear may imply that he is afraid of having things taken from him.

Abilities and Powers[]

Sterling is primarily a close-quarters combatant, his weapon providing him with ample reach and his semblance letting him deal a lot of damage rapidly in a minimal amount of hits.

Semblance[]

Main article: Critical Hit

Sterling’s semblance allows him to identify a weak point in his enemy when he affords them his full attention and guarantee a critical hit. His identification of a weak point is characterised by a glint in his eye, and his critical hits often cause his opponent's aura to flare.

Weaknesses[]

Sterling's critical weakness is his vice of exceptional greed, which instil in him a desire for control and an exceptional temper that drives him beyond all else. When Marron Armona identifies this, she uses his need for control against him; when infuriated enough his unstable aura reacted to his temper and shattered, leaving him vulnerable.

Relationships[]

Kamala Braith[]

Due to his ego, Sterling usually demands a deciding role in the family's plans, but only when Kamala is absent - he is never seen talking back to her, and in fact speaks very little in her presence.

The first time Sterling truly talks back to her is when he loses one arm in combat and the other is severely damaged. Kamala shows exceptionally little regard for his health, not even recognising it to begin with, but she appears unfazed by it - she judges his maiming as a fateful punishment for failure.

Gardner Braith[]

Sterling and Gardner do not get along. Sterling teases his older brother regarding his constant Aura drain. Gardner does not take the jabs lying down and instead threatens to drain Sterling's aura using his semblance. Sterling, however, is unfazed.

Viola Braith[]

Sterling shows a deal of constant irritation towards Viola, butting heads with her due to their similar roles as attack dogs within the family. Viola is critical of Sterling's intelligence, which annoys him further.

Zelena Braith[]

Sterling mostly shows trust towards his sister when not acting upon his greed. The two of them work well as a combat unit, but Sterling is not above criticising Zelena's sense of envy. He does not appear to argue with her too much, but does direct the occasional quip or insult her way.

Tahlia Braith[]

Much like Kamala, Sterling views Tahlia as mostly worthless - perhaps having learned from his eldest sister.

Trivia[]

Allusion[]

  • Sterling alludes to the Deadly Sin of Greed.[1]
    • Sterling shows a lot of belief that he deserves and has earned a lot of things, particularly the right to murder Nyssa and Kelvin Laukkanen - going as far as to scream at Rusty Gilford for aiding him in incapacitating the latter.
    • He also thinks he deserves the right to fight better combatants than NPIR.
    • His desire for control eventually distracts him to the point he does not anticipate an attack and thereby loses his arms.
  • Like the other members of the Braith family, he also reflects a colour of the rainbow. Yellow was chosen for him as it is the closest to gold, implying wealth and greed.

Colour Naming Rule[]

  • "Sterling" is derived from Old English, meaning "little star".
  • Braith is a Welsh unisex name derived from the word brith, meaning "diversely-colored," especially black and white or red and white.
